Ahead of the G20 meeting scheduled for 22 \u2013 23 November 2025 in South Africa, the South African Catholic Bishops’ Conference and the University of Cape Town\u2019s Centre for African Studies, in collaboration with other CSOs and FBOs organized an international Symposium on Global Justice in Cape Town, South Africa from 23rd to 24th June 2025. The Symposium aimed to position African priorities for the G20 within the global justice conversation at a pivotal moment in multilateral governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the role of Civil Society and Faith in Global Transformation, the AACC General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki described faith as the barometer and guide of ethical and moral convictions which govern how we live together as one humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are expected to remind the world of what God desires and expects in how we live and are related with one another and all creation in its entirety, both in this generation and beyond.\u201d He expressed.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rev. Dr. Fidon identified the three interconnected calls to action the symposium offers as a practical, moral vision for the G20 as an opportunity to live in accordance to God\u2019s will for us as revealed in Micah 6:8. These include an ecological impact fund (EIF), a just and accountable global debt architecture and a globally universal school lunch program as a practical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized that these \u201cprovide to the G20 an opportunity to correct and transform systemic injustices that continue frustrating Africa\u2019s efforts to achieve sustainable development.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
