We are thrilled to welcome David Giron to the Global Ministries team as the new Global Relations Minister for Latin America and the Caribbean. David brings to this role a deep well of experience, a passion for justice, and a heart grounded in faith and partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
David\u2019s story begins with the witness of his parents, who emigrated from El Salvador during the early days of civil war. Their courage shaped his worldview and vocation. \u201cAlthough I didn\u2019t have to make the life-altering decisions my parents made,\u201d David shares, \u201cI strive to be one of those people who could have helped them along their way.\u201d Their journey instilled in him a powerful sense of compassion and purpose that has guided his work across government, civil society, and now, ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n

Before joining Global Ministries, David worked in various roles with USAID, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the State Department. He helped expose products in our markets tied to forced and child labor in Latin America and the Caribbean. \u201cMore than ever,\u201d he reflects, \u201cI feel called to share space and lift the stories of those facing exploitation, abuse, and injustice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of his proudest professional moments came when he helped lead a groundbreaking U.S.-Mexico agreement to address unpaid labor and worker exploitation. \u201cThroughout my career, I\u2019ve focused on trying to understand people and processes to effectuate change. Understanding what matters to people helps you build successful coalitions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
David is drawn to Global Ministries because of its integrity and bold witness. \u201cWe are witnessing an atrophy in the rule of law, justice, and compassion on a global scale,\u201d he says. \u201cI am inspired by Global Ministries\u2019 commitment to speak truth in an age of rampant mal\/mis\/dis-information.\u201d As he steps into this new role, David shares, \u201c<\/em>I am focused on building relationships with our partners in Latin America and the Caribbean. I am eager to meet our partners and to communicate our presence and solidarity. As I travel across the region, my hope is to gather feedback and generate ideas on how to strengthen our partnerships.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His faith, nurtured daily through prayer and devotional reading, is not only his spiritual compass\u2014it\u2019s also his sustaining strength. \u201cFrom a theological perspective, I understand that ministry requires us to make sacrifices and adopt a posture of humility and learning,\u201d he says. \u201cOn the other hand, my faith renews my efforts to process and act on the injustices of our present time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Outside of work, David finds balance and joy through soccer, grilling, and crabbing along the Chesapeake Bay. He\u2019s a dedicated weekend coach and slow-smoked barbecue enthusiast. \u201cYou better believe there is something on the grill or smoker on the weekends,\u201d he jokes. \u201cSome of my favorites include pulled pork, ribs (all kinds), and skirt steak.\u201d Whether it\u2019s on the soccer field or the fishing pier, he finds strength in community, rhythm in rest, and lessons in leadership that echo across all areas of life. “<\/em>If you were to ask my friends, I think they would say my main hobbies are soccer, barbecuing, and crabbing. I\u2019ve played soccer since I was 5 and still play on the weekends. I coached co-ed teams for the past two years, which taught me a lot. I am not the holler and yelling type coach \u2013 I\u2019ve found that my kids respond best when they are inspired. It is okay if they make mistakes, I make them too. My job is to help them learn from those mistakes and end up better soccer players than when they started.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As David begins this new chapter, he invites the Global Ministries community to walk with him. \u201cWhether it\u2019s traveling across the region or just a small gesture,\u201d he says, \u201cI ask that you remember our people and region as one of vibrancy, creativity, and perseverance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Looking ahead, his hope is clear: \u201cA year from now, I would like for our office to re-establish dormant partnerships and identify new ones where we can continue to advance mutual and transformative partnerships.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
