Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) calls for the preservation of the Armenian Christian community in Jerusalem, Nagorno\/Karabakh, and around the world, as today marks 110 years since the beginning of the Armenian Genocide, during which 1.5 million Armenians were systematically killed by the Ottoman Empire. In addition, leaders of the Turkish Empire killed Greek, Assyrian, and other Christian minorities living under the Ottoman Empire during the early 20th century. On this solemn anniversary, CMEP joins the global Armenian community and Christians worldwide in remembrance and mourning. We honor the victims and their enduring legacy, remembering not only the lives lost but also the resilience of survivors and their descendants. More than a century later, the Armenian people are still awaiting full acknowledgment and accountability from the perpetrators of this crime against humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We recognize the ongoing struggles of the Armenian community in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), where displacement, instability, and loss continue. We are also deeply concerned about threats to the Armenian presence in Jerusalem\u2014a community that has been an integral part of the city\u2019s spiritual, cultural, and historic landscape for centuries. The Armenian Orthodox Patriarchate faces land confiscation and political pressures that threaten the very existence of Armenian Christians in Christianity\u2019s holiest city. Across the broader Middle East, Armenian communities face challenges that demand our solidarity and our action. CMEP is committed to advocating for policies rooted in justice, dignity, and peace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We affirm that remembrance must lead to transformation. We will continue to call for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and to work toward a future in which the Armenian people and all Christians everywhere can live side-by-side with their neighbors in peace, freedom, and prosperity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday, April 27, 2025 CMEP will host a commemorative event at St. Mary Armenian Apostolic Church at 125 Fessenden St NW, Washington, DC 20016 titled: “Faith, Remembrance, and Resilience: Standing Together for Justice and Peace in Commemoration of the Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide<\/a>” starting at 1pm. The program will host an ecumenical service with remarks by different Christian Faith leaders, a children\u2019s performance, and a reception. All are welcome to join us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
