World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay welcomed the news of a ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cWe stand in solemn solidarity with those who mourn the loss of loved ones and offer our heartfelt prayers for the healing and recovery of the injured,\u201d he said. \u201cWe view this moment as a pivotal opportunity for transformative action.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pillay urged leaders and decision-makers in Lebanon to seize this chance to rebuild the country on a solid foundation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis includes reinforcing the sovereignty of the nation, ensuring safety and security of the nation from external threats, and addressing the urgent need for long-term stability, resilience, economic equity, and sustainable development,\u201d he said. \u201cBeyond the physical reconstruction, we fervently pray for the restoration of social cohesion among communities in Lebanon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pillay added that unity and mutual trust are indispensable for sustainable peace, and he called on all parties to nurture a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe also pray for the safe return of all displaced people in Lebanon and Israel,\u201d Pillay said. \u201cMay they find a life under conditions of peace, dignity, and security.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pillay noted grave concern for the ongoing violence and suffering in Gaza and the West Bank. \u201cWe renew our urgent call for a comprehensive and lasting peace in the region, one that is rooted in justice, the restoration of rights, and the dignity of all people,\u201d he said. \u201cThe World Council of Churches continues to advocate for a peace that is both just and enduring, grounded in compassion, equity, and our shared humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He concluded: \u201cMay this ceasefire serve as a beacon of hope and a step toward a future where peace, justice, and reconciliation prevail for all people in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
