From a Press Release of the Heartland Habitat for Humanity regarding former missionary to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Reverend AC Cuppy and the Greater Kansas City Region Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)<\/em><\/p>\n

Kansas City, KS, May 9, 2007 – <\/strong>The Winston family, in partnership with members of the Greater Kansas City Region Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)<\/strong>, will be celebrating the completion of their Heartland Habitat for Humanity home with a House Blessing ceremony on Saturday, May 12 at 11:30 a.m.<\/strong>\u00a0 The event will be hosted at 2153 North 33rd Street<\/strong>.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Larenda Winston is a single mother raising six daughters, ages ranging from 6-19 years.\u00a0 She is also raising her two grandchildren.\u00a0 Because of their large family, their living arrangements had always been tight.\u00a0 It was hard for them to rent a house due to the number of family members, the rental cost per month and space. <\/p>\n

Winston and her family applied for a Heartland Habitat for Humanity home in 2005, and will be moving into their five-bedroom house later this month.\u00a0 A five-bedroom home is atypical for most Habitat affiliates to build; however, approval is based, in part, on the family’s size. <\/p>\n

Their home was sponsored by members of Kansas City area Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) in honor of Kaw Valley Habitat for Humanity’s founder A.C. Cuppy. <\/p>\n

Heartland Habitat for Humanity builds homes using volunteer labor, donated funds and donated materials.\u00a0 The homes are sold to qualifying partner families with no profit and affordable 0% interest loans.\u00a0 Mortgage payments are invested back into the program, helping to build additional new homes across Heartland’s target areas.\u00a0\u00a0 Winston and other Heartland Habitat for Humanity homeowners are required to invest 350 hours of sweat equity in the construction of their homes, partnering with other families and completing homeowner education classes. <\/p>\n
