Christchurch, Aotearoa\/New Zealand was rocked Tuesday, February 22, by a deadly and destructive earthquake.<\/p>\n

The quake struck
\njust before 1 p.m. local time on Tuesday, when the city was bustling with
\ncommerce and tourism. It was less powerful than a 7.1 temblor that struck
\nbefore dawn on Sept. 4 that damaged buildings but killed no one. Experts said
\nTuesday\u2019s quake was deadlier because it was closer to the city and because more
\npeople were about.<\/p>\n
