Lent and Easter, the Passion and resurrection of Jesus, are central dates in the Christian tradition. Lent is the time of reflection, of repentance, prayer, and fasting for many Christian confessions. The Passion reminds us of the time of derision and the cross of Christ, and the Resurrection is the affirmation of hope, of the God of life.<\/p>\n

Argentine people go through these moments even today. Fasting, for many, is not an act of piety but the hunger forced by an economic reality that has benefited the few to the detriment of the many, increasing poverty, especially among the children of our country. It is, without a doubt, a time of repentance, when we have let ourselves be carried away by hatred, prejudice, lies, and injustices. It is a time for reflection to think about different ways of life that include caring for and being in solidarity with the most vulnerable – in biblical words, with “the orphan, the widow, the poor, and the foreigner.” This time of reflection is also for our Christian churches, especially many of the evangelical churches, where dogmatism, the exaltation of personal names and the temptation of power and money seem to overshadow the humility and service to which our Lord calls us.<\/p>\n

Many sacrificial crosses are erected on this Easter: the elderly are sacrificed with retirement and miserable pensions, the workers dismissed and unemployed, the women who suffer violence. Aggression on the street, in the media, and even in homes, is the order of the day. Corruption invades all politics and even the courts, sacrificing vital ethics, democracy, freedom, and justice. Aggression and corruption are not the cross of redemption but the devious cross of derision. They are sacrifices, not for the piety of faith, but forces of the gods of greed, ambition, and insensitivity that do not seek to save the people, but sink them into despair. It is a painful Easter, permeated with discouragement and sadness, with all the signs of death.<\/p>\n

However, it is also the time of resurrection. There will be no resurrection if we put egoism, individualism, and the idol of the market in God’s place. The idol of capitalism won’t be able to save us. The God who is capable of resurrecting our people is the God who is love. The God who proclaims good news to the poor, who announces justice, is the One who offers the solidarity that binds us together. The God who does not ask for sacrifices but enjoys himself in mercy. A God who does not impose itself from the cry and the threat, but calls to those who are believers and those who are not to live in peace and respect each other in our human dignity. It is the shared hope, the God who makes us people, the God of the fullness of life.<\/p>\n

Nuestra Cuaresma y Pascua, la Pasi\u00f3n y la Resurrecci\u00f3n<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Cuaresma y Pascua, pasi\u00f3n y resurrecci\u00f3n de Jes\u00fas, son fechas centrales en la tradici\u00f3n cristiana. La cuaresma es el tiempo de reflexi\u00f3n, de arrepentimiento, tiempo de oraci\u00f3n y ayuno para muchas confesiones cristianas. La pasi\u00f3n nos recuerda el tiempo del escarnio y la cruz de Cristo, y la Resurrecci\u00f3n es la afirmaci\u00f3n de la esperanza, del Dios de la vida.<\/p>\n

Nuestro pueblo argentino hoy pasa por estos momentos. Solo que el ayuno de cuaresma, para muchos, no es un acto de piedad sino el hambre obligado por una realidad econ\u00f3mica que ha beneficiado a pocos en detrimento de los muchos, aumentando la pobreza, especialmente entre los ni\u00f1os y ni\u00f1as de nuestro pa\u00eds. Es, sin duda, tiempo de arrepentimiento, cuando nos hemos dejado llevar por el odio, el prejuicio, las mentiras y las injusticias. Tiempo de reflexi\u00f3n, para que pensemos modos de vida distintos, que se muestren en el cuidado y la solidaridad con los m\u00e1s vulnerables, en palabras b\u00edblicas, con \u201cel hu\u00e9rfano, la viuda, el pobre y el extranjero\u201d. Tiempo de reflexi\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n para nuestras iglesias cristianas, especialmente muchas de las iglesias evang\u00e9licas, donde el dogmatismo, la exaltaci\u00f3n de nombres personales y la tentaci\u00f3n del poder y el dinero parecen superponerse a la humildad y servicio al que nos llama nuestro Se\u00f1or.<\/p>\n

En esta Pascua se levantan muchas cruces de sacrificios: son sacrificados los ancianos con jubilaciones y pensiones de miseria, los y las trabajadores despedidos y desocupados, las mujeres que sufren violencia. La agresi\u00f3n, en la calle, en los medios de comunicaci\u00f3n y a\u00fan en los hogares, est\u00e1 a la orden del d\u00eda. Una corrupci\u00f3n que invade todos los signos pol\u00edticos y a\u00fan los tribunales, sacrifica, junto con la \u00e9tica, la vida democr\u00e1tica, la libertad y la justicia que tanto cost\u00f3 y anhelamos. No son la cruz de la redenci\u00f3n sino la artera cruz del escarnio. Son sacrificios, no de la piedad de la fe, sino imposiciones de los dioses de la codicia, de la ambici\u00f3n, de la insensibilidad que no busca salvar a un pueblo, sino que lo hunde en la desesperanza. Es una Pascua dolorosa, invadida de desaliento y tristeza, con todos los signos de la muerte.<\/p>\n

Pero tambi\u00e9n es tiempo de resurrecci\u00f3n. Pero no habr\u00e1 resurrecci\u00f3n si ponemos en lugar de Dios al ego\u00edsmo, al individualismo, si tomamos por dios al \u00eddolo del mercado, si creemos que nos salvar\u00e1 el dinero de la especulaci\u00f3n. El Dios que es capaz de resucitar a nuestro pueblo es el Dios que es amor: el Dios que proclama buenas nuevas a los pobres, que anuncia la justicia, el Dios de la solidaridad que hermana. Es el Dios que no pide sacrificios mas se goza en la misericordia. Un Dios que no se impone desde el grito y la amenaza, sino que llama, a quienes somos creyentes y a quienes no, a vivir en paz y respetarnos mutuamente en nuestra dignidad humana. Es la esperanza compartida, el Dios que nos hace pueblo, el Dios de la vida plena.<\/p>\n
